"It’s that time again guys, Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2011 is now open for entries! You can find all the details of how to enter this year on the Royal Observatory Greenwich’s website

We’re pleased to announce this year that we have a new special category - Robotic (Remote) Telescope Image of the Year. This category has been created in part to help promote the amazing imagery anyone can capture from the comfort of their own home using robotic scopes, but also to set aside images taken in this way so that our judges can appreciate them independently of those images taken using personal equipment. We’ll be publishing a How to guide on Robotic Scopes later in the year.

The prize refers to use of robotic scopes such as iTelescope where the user actively takes the photograph themselves...

Now you can keep up to date with what’s going on at the Observatory via our Twitter feed or on our Facebook page. We’ll be posting updates that we think could inspire your astrophotography, but we’d also love to hear from you about your top tips for beginners and experts alike. Get involved and help your fellow astrophotographer!

If you have any problems entering your images via our website, drop us a Flickrmail and we’ll do what we can to help.
 Good luck!

Emma and all at the Royal Observatory Greenwich"

Taken any great images this year? Well..? What are you waiting for?

Get to it! Good Luck!

(This APY section will award a prize* of £350 stirling. All winners will also receive a one year subscription to Sky at Night Magazine. Winners will be announced on the APY website  no later than 9 September 2011)
